Dental Emergencies

A toothache or oral health change can be challenging and frightening, but our team always works together to get you dental care when you need it most.

Dental Emergency? We Are Here to Help

A dental emergency can mean many things, so if ever you’re in doubt, we encourage you to contact a member of our knowledgeable team. They can assess your symptoms and provide your options for treatment.

If you are in pain, we encourage you to contact us right away. We know how quickly a toothache can escalate, and we never want you to suffer through needlessly. A dental team member can also provide tips to keep you comfortable until you see Dr Brian, Dr Alice or Dr Claire.

Dental emergencies may include:

  • Broken tooth or restoration
  • Tooth or restoration knocked out
  • Swelling and oral pain
  • Bleeding
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Object lodged in the gums or between teeth

There are so many possibilities that it is impossible to consider them all, which is why we always want to hear from you sooner rather than later.

Your Emergency Dental Appointment

We treat your emergency based on the nature of your situation, but you can rest assured our team and dentists are concerned and will take measures to alleviate your pain straightaway. We can offer numbing agents, and our dentists always focus on gentle dental treatment.

In some cases, we complete treatment during your emergency appointment. Other times, we stabilise your condition and book a follow-up appointment. This decision depends on the nature of your dental emergency. A root canal, for example, requires a follow-up visit.

Preventing Dental Emergencies

At Whitsunday Family Dental, Dr Brian, Dr Alice and Dr Claire emphasise preventive dentistry—regular exams and teeth cleans—because we have found that these practices lower your risks for dental emergencies, cavities and gum disease. These preventive measures should be in concert with daily brushing and flossing at home.

It is also important to contact your dentist if you notice oral health changes between dental check-ups, including tooth sensitivity that does not improve, sores in the mouth or swelling. We are here to help address your emergency and enjoy good oral health in the future.

If You Have a Dental Emergency, We Encourage Your Call

Our compassionate dentists make time in their schedules daily for emergencies because they never want to see you suffer or put your oral health at risk. And we always work together as a team to relieve your discomfort and restore your oral health as soon as possible.

We have treated dental emergencies across the Whitsundays for forty years, and we are recognised for our kindness and compassion throughout the region.
