Orthodontics
Dr Brian, Dr Alice and Dr Claire are passionate about helping patients achieve beautiful and healthy smiles. And through orthodontics, they can often achieve both. Straight teeth and an aligned bite are about more than aesthetics. Correcting crooked and misaligned teeth may also contribute to better oral health.
Orthodontics for a Beautiful Smile
We offer both fixed braces, sometimes called traditional braces, and Invisalign clear aligners.
Your dentist assesses your situation to make sure orthodontics will give you the smile you want, and at this initial examination, we can discuss the options. This includes any pretreatments that can bring you into candidacy for traditional braces or Invisalign. In some cases, we may recommend a professional teeth clean to get you started or other treatment that will help ensure an optimal outcome.
Together, you and your dentist can come up with a treatment plan that works for you. Of course, we always love chatting with our patients, and we welcome your questions throughout your smile journey.
Traditional Braces
Your dentist may recommend traditional braces for more complex orthodontic treatments, or for our younger patients. With this option, we depend on fixed brackets and wires to line up your teeth over time. Every couple of weeks, you come into our dental clinic, and your dentist meticulously adjusts your braces to get you closer to your ideal smile.
Treatment can last anywhere from six months to two years, depending on your unique smile goals and needs.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
For a removable option, we offer Invisalign. We take impressions of your smile, and Invisalign uses our results to create a series of aligners. Every few weeks, you switch to the next aligner in the series until your teeth have reached their ideal location.
Invisalign is virtually invisible and made from clear plastic. Treatment time is based on your unique smile needs, but the course is similar to traditional braces.
How Orthodontics Contribute to a Healthy Smile
When your teeth are straight, brushing and flossing may be more productive—considering that there are fewer overlaps and nooks for bacteria to hide from your toothbrush and dental floss.
An aligned bite may also reduce wear on your teeth, which can lead to cracks and sensitivity.
Our orthodontic options correct the following:
- Bite misalignment
- Crooked or twisted teeth
- Teeth that overlap
- Gaps or uneven spacing between teeth
Post Orthodontic Treatment
After you complete treatment, your dentist designs a custom retainer to keep your teeth in their new straight positions. Without a retainer, teeth tend to drift back out of alignment.
